New cousin!

Saturday, August 8th, 2015

My cousin and his wife had a baby several months ago, and we finally got to meet the newest member of our family! We also got to enjoy an incredible NYC skyline from their Brooklyn apartment.

The Met

Saturday, August 8th, 2015

While we were in the city to meet our newest little cousin, we squeezed in a magnificent trip to the Met. We headed straight to the Sargent exhibit to see several of our favorites, and it was an absolutely fantastic exhibit. Then we covered a lot of ground in a short time and saw lots of our favorites before heading to Brooklyn.

Jamie and Becky

Saturday, July 25th, 2015

It’s always wonderful to see a dear friend, especially one I only get to see every other year or so! We spent a lovely pleasant weekend in New Jersey hanging out with Jamie and her adorable kiddos, and Other Becky who also traveled to visit. We ended the weekend with an awesome meal and Benihana’s, and little T was absolutely captivated by the table-side cooking extravaganza!

Storytellers in the Courtyard

Thursday, July 23rd, 2015

For tonight’s theme of Myths and Monsters, four storytellers stood at the four corners of the courtyard and performed three stories from Greek Mythology while a cellist played! It was pretty spectacular!

The National Building Museum is a great place to go to watch your adorable cousin stack things up and knock things over, over and over again!

Virginia Museum of Fine Art

Sunday, July 5th, 2015

We drove from Raleigh to DC, and decided to stop in Richmond for lunch at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. We figured we would eat, see a few galleries, then get back on the road. We probably should have known we’d end up there for 3 hours.

After a delicious meal, we wandered the galleries, starting with an incredible collection of Art Deco and Art Nouveau. The VMFA really does have a great collection, and it was a real treat to find that the VMFA has copies of not one, not two, but three of my most favorite sculptures!

Cambridge Boat Club

Saturday, June 27th, 2015

I had so much fun assisting Maureen Cotton, who is among many things an amazing wedding photographer, with a wedding shoot at the lovely Cambridge Boat Club. It’s a beautiful spot tucked away in a bend in the Charles River, and a great little spot for a festive party!

A walk at the end of a long day

Friday, June 26th, 2015

Today was quite a day, ending with a lovely walk along the Charles River with an old friend and her adorable dogs. Today, the Supreme Court of the United States made it legal for all couples to marry – something that should simply be ordinary rather than incredibly momentous, and yet, seemingly out of nowhere … a victory for common sense, a victory for decency, a victory for what never should have been illegal in the first place, a victory for love.

Today, one of my student’s slept through her final, and I helped her navigate a tricky situation. Today, another office gave us the rest of a delicious ice cream cake. Today, the president led an enormous group in singing Amazing Grace at the funeral of a victim of an unthinkable crime. It was a day for very small victories and very big victories.

Today also marks one year since the death of my father-in-law, and although we missed him very much yesterday and we will miss him very much tomorrow, today we stop and think about 525,600 minutes … what it means when a whole year has passed without him.

DeCordova

We had a quick visit the DeCordova Sculpture Park, just long enough to enjoy a meal with some relatives we rarely get to see, wander a few galleries and see some giant outdoor sculptures.

Third Thursday: Garden Party

Thursday, June 18th, 2015

I had an awesome time volunteering at the Gardner Museum’s Third Thursday. The theme was Garden Party, and we had a full house of summery, pleasant, inquisitive visitors!

Ogunquit

Saturday, June 13th, 2015

This was one of our incredibly rare free summer weekends, so we made the most of it with a day trip to Ogunquit with Brendan and Courtney. Ogunquit has an incredibly beautiful stretch of coastline, and it was so interesting to see how different it looks on a summer beach day in low tide compared to when we visited back in late December. We made it back to Boston in time to catch a beautiful Charlestown sunset!

Who knew there was an incredibly pleasant Mexican restaurant with awesome outdoor seating down a weird alley in Newton Center? Deanna and I caught up over sangria and delicious food … I love our date nights!

Merry & Jeremy’s Wedding

Saturday, June 6th, 2015

When one of your dear friends get married, and it’s someone you’ve known for 23 years, you can’t possibly hope to capture all of the wonderful moments of an incredible day … so thank goodness for wedding photographers! I got a few random shots, but this hardly captures a wonderful evening full of old friends, good food, great music, lots of dancing, lots of laughing and maybe a few tears. We couldn’t be happier for this incredible couple!
