BBQ and Bubbles

After a long day at work, we headed to our friends’ new house for the first BBQ of the season. Hamburgers, hot dogs, friends we don’t see often enough, and adorable little girls running around chasing bubbles in the backyard. I hope to have many more evenings like this.

Anniversary

Sunday, March 3rd, 2013

[Not a valid template]A year after our wedding, we can look back and honestly say that we would not have done anything differently. Our wedding weekend was truly joyful, and we returned to the Hyatt Harborside to celebrate our first anniversary and enjoy those wonderful memories. We enjoyed a delicious dinner and breakfast at the Harborside Grill, and we still can’t get enough of that spectacular view! Brian’s family surprised us with a delicious antipasto platter and a bottle of champagne, which was a really sweet treat.

Brian planned a wonderful surprise of his own. He ordered a mini-version of our wedding cake from the bakery where our wedding cake was from, and we picked it up on our way to my parents’ house. He tried to get the bakery to decorate our cake with the same leafy design as our wedding cake, but it didn’t work out quite as he had planned. Instead, it was even better. They frosted the cake with the leaves of two full trees meeting in the middle. We had lunch with my family, and shared the cake with them.

Mastodons!

Friday, October 5th, 2012

[Not a valid template]One of the gazillion reasons that I love Boston is that we have an amazing Museum of Science. I’m not exactly a science-y person, but this museum has been blowing my mind since I was a little kid. They continually put up phenomenal exhibits that are incredibly informative, really fun for little kids and big kids, and displayed beautifully. We got a sneak preview of the new mastodon exhibit, and it did not disappoint. Again, ancient mammoths, not exactly my thing, but it was incredibly humbling to be reminded that this planet has been inhabited for at least 65 million years, and incredibly staggering to be reminded that we know an awful lot about ancient mammoths.

Also, mastodon is fun to say, and some of the early mastodons look like Snuffleupagus.

The Big E

Saturday, September 15th, 2012

[Not a valid template] The Big E – Eastern States Exposition – basically like a huge state fair, but for the all five New England states. We got up early, braved the traffic out to this popular destination, and ate our way through the fair. Fried clams, smoked salmon on a stick, chocolate covered bacon, maple cream pies, apple pie, apple cider, candy apples, cheddar cheese, cheese curds — I love New England! This is Brendan and Courtney with Vermont apple pie (with Vermont sharp cheddar, of course), and beer brewed in Vermont.

Top of the Hub

Friday, August 24th, 2012

[Not a valid template]To surprise my father for his 60th birthday, mom flew my brother and his girlfriend from LA to Boston. Dad thought he was having dinner with mom and his east coast children, but 6 of us showed up for dinner instead of 4. Dad was very surprised, and the 7 of us sat down to an incredible meal with an incredible view!

Top of the Hub is a restaurant on the 52nd floor of the Prudential Tower, and this was my first time partaking of one of Boston’s most precious gems. The food was amazing. The view was amazing. The sunset was breaktaking, and it was wonderful to have my whole family together.

Flying my brother and his girlfriend to Boston was just the beginning of the surprise. The following day, they kept dad out of the house while the rest of us set up for a backyard BBQ. Dad was expecting just few friends, but a few relatives and a few other friends joined the party to surprise dad for a big all-out end-of-summer festive summer bbq.

Visiting Sara

Saturday, August 4th, 2012

[Not a valid template]This lovely lady just moved in with this handsome gent. We have a scheduling conflict for their housewarming party, so we spent the afternoon visiting them in New Hampshire. It’s hard to see your friends once or twice a year when you used to see them all the time, but if it’s seven hours or not at all, then I’ll take it! I’ve known her 22 years longer than I’ve known him, and we all got along like old friends. How great is that?

We were originally planning to help them with a project, but it was way too hot to work, so instead we ate all afternoon — starting with incredible cheese samples at Grafton Village Cheese Company. My friends really know me 🙂

Becky & Brian’s wedding on Boston’s Harborside from Maureen Cotton Photography on Vimeo.

Becky & Brian celebrate their special day at the Hyatt Harborside with breathtaking views. Photography by taken by Maureen Cotton.  www.maureencottonweddings.com

________

Maureen Cotton, a gifted photographer and one of my dearest friends, photographed our wedding and created this wonderful video slideshow that captures the joy of our day so perfectly.

But I couldn’t go a whole day without snapping a few photos, even on my wedding day. I woke up in my suite, saw my dress hanging up and saw a very foggy skyline. Many, many hours later, the fog had long-since cleared and we took a water taxi to the North End for dinner.
